Quality in Play - Well done Challengers Guildford!
In Autumn 2010, Challengers Guildford Playscheme was awarded Play
England’s Quality in Play Award in recognition of the high quality of service provided for children who attend the scheme.
Play England is a national organisation run by NCB which works to give children and young people in England regular access to free, inclusive, local play provision and play space. It means a lot to our operations staff to be recognised by this organisation as they are true experts in play!
Quality in Play aims to raise the standards of staffed play provision across the country. It was developed by playwork practitioners and based on well-established good practice. Many play providers already use Quality in Play to demonstrate the quality of their service to parents, their communities and funders.
Challengers Guildford Playcentre was visited by an assessor on 3rd August 2010, she spent the day with us talking to staff, parents and interacting with and observing children at play. The assessor felt that the environment was “emotionally warm and welcoming, fully inclusive and accessible”. She summed up the qualities of our staff by saying they were “young, energetic, caring, friendly, able to communicate well and imaginative”. Both of these statements were really pleasing as this is exactly what we look for at our schemes and in our staff.
We hope that this award will be the first of many received as we roll the assurance scheme out to all of our settings over the next few years.
