On May 14th, an inspirational girl named Arianne, aged 9, took on an incredible challenge. Recently Arianne lost the ability to walk independently (for the fifth time in her life) yet this did not stop her walking the entire length, all 1.2 miles, of the newly built Hindhead tunnel with her parents and sisters. All in an effort to raise much-needed funds for Disability Challengers.
Arianne’s walk has now raised a phenomenal £24,500!! She has set a record at Disability Challengers for the fastest online sponsorship, having raised £2,000 in the first 12 hours!
Arianne’s mother, Fiona explains, “We chose Disability Challengers to be our chosen charity because of the amazing work they do for disabled children. Arianne is an incredibly loving child and adores people, but because of her condition taking care of her is a full time job. She can’t dress or feed herself, so someone needs to be there with her at all times. Disability Challengers offers that kind of support. It is incredibly reassuring to know that I can leave Arianne in the hands of young and enthusiastic carers who will ensure she is well looked after and is having a great time. If you are able to sponsor Arianne in this attempt to raise money it is greatly appreciated."
We have quite literally never seen such an immediate and staggering response to a fundraising challenge before and cannot thank Arianne and her family enough for their hard work and for raising such an incredible amount to help fund our play and leisure services for disabled children and young people across Surrey and Hampshire.
